Report by Dave Coleman

Obviously happy with the result but l so wish we could have got another goal its a long time since we scored 5 in a game! The game started with Newcastle warned for time wasting after 30 seconds! For the first few minutes it looked like they werent interested in going forward. But then they got in a couple of times down Wan Bissakas side which is unusual, maybe he was missing James. Newcastle didnt make the most of those first 2 openings but the third 1 they made count and took the lead. It had looked like it was coming for the 5 minutes or so previous so we had no complaints. From that moment the game seemed to change partly we picked it up a little but l also think Newcastle made the mistake of dropping off and letting us have the ball. It took us less than 10 minutes to equalise through Martial with a near post shot that perhaps the goalkeeper should have done better with. I like the fact the players didnt waste time celebrating as it was only an equaliser. We were now dominating and around 10 minutes later we took the lead through Greenwood with a shot l thought was deflected but lve been told since it wasnt. It didnt take long for Rashford to score the third from a right wing cross with a rare header. Going in half time 3-1 up was wonderfully relaxing for a change. Pogba came on for McTominay at the start of the second half to play in the position he least prefers. Within around 5 minutes Martial broke away from a Newcastle mistake and beat the goalkeeper to make it a game ending 4-1. The rest of the game was very comfortable as we had the vast majority of the ball and Newcastle were frankly no threat. It was nice to be able to take off Rashford and Martial but l do think we would have scored more if they had stayed on. We didnt play badly after the substitutions but the edge wasnt there. Best attempts were when Martial hit the post before he went off and Maguire brought a good save from the goalkeeper with a great long range shot. We had other chances but l have to admit we didnt really look like scoring another. After Newcastle took the lead l thought all the team played reasonably well l really thought Pogba played well when he came on and was far more positionally sound than he has been before in McTominays position. I thought Pereira played well in the number 10 position which suits him better than being an out and out midfielder. But my MOTM was the most improved player at Old Trafford in the last couple of months Fred who is looking more and more like he may have a future with United. Next match is away to Burnley in Premier League on Saturday night. Come on United! 🇾🇪
