Report by Dave Coleman

The result we wanted and qualification for the CL. Not a great game in any way neither team played very well. It was a very nervous affair altogether with no real pattern to it. Each team had periods of possession and made some chances but hardly any good ones. The commentator kept saying how Leicester would be happy with 0-0 until late in the match l didnt agree with him as they needed the win. So it proved when with around 20 minutes left Greenwood won the ball in midfield and Fernandes played the ball through for Martial who was brought down from both sides to give us a definite penalty. Fernandes was very calm and took the penalty in his usual fashion to give us the lead. Now the onus was truly on Leicester and l think they didnt really cause us that many problems maybe just the one real chance. We gave away a few freekicks which l think they wasted. We had gone into “keep what we have got”mode when Lingard robbed the keeper to score a second that hopefully will give him the boost he clearly needs. Best player on the pitch by far for me was Lindelöf only possibly challenged by Matic. The rest of the team quite clearly need a rest and hopefully we can recover and be ready for the Europa League. So we finish the season in 3rd place which is far above what many of thought possible not that long ago. We are far from where we want to be but there is definite progress certainly with the first 11. But we quite clearly need more quality and squad depth. Next match is a week on Wednesday at home to LASK in Europa League. Come on United! 🇾🇪
