Not a great performance but in cup competitions a win is all that matters. We played some decent stuff but there were far too many mistakes from just about every player. We could have conceded a goal from our own throw in when Wolves pressed us into a mistake from Fred that eventually led to the ball being in our net but thankfully VAR disallowed the goal. Then from a short corner they nearly got in again with a header that hit the post but it wouldnt have counted because of an offside. We didnt deal very well with them when tjey pressed high against in the first half and l suppose we were lucky to be 0-0 at half time. We werent out of the game and made some chances but l think they were the better team. The second half l thought was far more even and we dealt with them much better. I do have to say l did not think we were going to score and expected a late night. But with about 25 minutes to go the ball broke to Martial around halfway he took it on a couple of steps then played Mata in who finished into the bottom corner. Im not sure we deserved it but we had the lead and the problem was keeping it. There were a few minor scares but l dont think they ever really looked like equalising. The big problem was the injury to Rashford which l sincerely hope is not serious. In the last 2 matches Mata has proved he still has something to offer the team and l thought he has another more than decent game. But theres no doubt for me that MOTM has to be Williams who just gets better and is definitely going to be first team regular for many years. It wasnt a game we will remember very well but the main thing is we are in the next round of the cup. Next game is Liverpool away on Sunday in Premier League. Come on United! 🇾🇪
