Report by Dave Coleman

I suppose the most used comment will be it was only Norwich but these are the sort of games that we have struggled to win all season. The first half was very similar to all those games from the rest of the season. Norwich would have been happy with a draw right from the start and we were trying very hard to break them down. We played some lovely bits of football at times but as usual the last pass cross or shot just wasnt what was required. But this time we eventually got the goal we desperately needed a lovely cross by Mata was met at the far post by Rashford and we went 1-0 up before the half hour mark. We seemed to ease off a little for some reason though Norwich didnt really threaten until right at the end of the half when De Gea made a decent save and the follow up was blocked or missed l cant actually remember. The second half we needed to stamp our authority on the game and ensure the win.Within a few minutes Williams was galloping through and into the area were he beat the goalkeeper only to be brought down for about as obvious a penalty as you could imagine. Rashford put the penalty away confidently and is now becoming a much more regular goal scorer. Quite soon afterwards Martial headed in the third from a corner and that was game over. Ole must have felt the same way because he very soon took Rashford off and brought James on.Around 10 minutes later he replaced Pereira with Greenwood. The changes disrupted the flow of the game and it looked to be petering out. But Greenwood showed his finishing ability again with a turn and shot into the bottom corner to make it 4. Martial was soon replaced by Gomes and the game was winding down to the inevitable end. Norwich started to have a bit of pressure and showed more effort in the last 10 minute than they did in the previous 80 but they never seriously troubled De Gea. So yes it was only Norwich but it was a good convincing win and a clean sheet which is something we have seldom been able to say this season. I dont think any player had a bad game though Martial seemed to be a little off the boil. There were some notable performances ,Rashford for his goals Williams again showing his massive potential, Fred made mistakes but again put everything into his game, Pereira had perhaps his best ever game for us. But l would make Matic MOTM for someone who seems likely to leave the club soon he ran the midfield for us and for the first time since hes been out l dont think we missed McTominay. So it was a good day for us today and though we still have many problems and a long way to go it makes a change to be able to smile about a United match and performance. Next match is Wolves at home in 3rd round FA Cup replay on Wednesday. Come on United! 🇾🇪
