Michael Carrick  (*  July 28th  1981  in  Wallsend ) is a former  English  Soccer player  and from the 2006/07 to 2017/18 season for the  Premier League club  Manchester United  active. The central, mostly defensively oriented  midfield player  began his professional career in London at  West Ham United  and  Tottenham Hotspur . With "United" he then celebrated five English championships ( 2007 ,  2008 ,  2009 ,  2011 ,  2013 ) as well as winning the  Champions League  his greatest successes. In the summer of 2018 he ended his career as a professional footballer.

With the  English national team  he took part in the World Cup finals in 2006 and 2010  Germany  and  South Africa  part. However, he was only used in a single game and was mostly in the shadow of competitors such as  Steven Gerrard ,  Frank Lampard  or  Gareth Barry . His strengths lie in passing and positional play as well as good ball control.


On the 31st  In July 2006, Carrick hired  Manchester United  at.  In “negotiation poker”, a £ 10 million offer was initially rejected and an agreement was only reached after a significant improvement by “United” - the transfer compensation now consisted of an immediate payment of £ 14 million plus success-related bonus payments of additional ones 4.6 million pounds.

On 23.  In August 2006 he made his debut for United in a 3-0 away win in the Premier League by substitution and only three days later he was in the starting line-up for the first time. At the side of  Paul Scholes  he was now placed in central midfield and was only briefly injured by the Irishman  John O'Shea  or the Scot  Darren Fletcher  represent. He won the English championship straight away and another highlight was the 7-1 victory in the  Champions League  against the  AS Roma , in which Carrick also scored two long-range goals  - in the semifinals the team then failed on  AC Milan . With the obligations of  Owen Hargreaves  and  Anderson  Carrick received further competition on his position  and a broken elbow in October 2007 against AS Roma initially made the sporting prospects look worse. After his comeback in November 2007, however, he remained a central figure in midfield as a “ball conqueror”. He won the English championship for the second time in a row.  May 2008 against the  Chelsea FC  in the  Champions League final . He played the entire 120 minutes and converted the second penalty for United in the ultimately victorious penalty shootout.  Four days earlier he had signed a new five-year deal in Manchester.  Carrick also played a central role in completing the “Premier League title hat-trick” in 2009 and scored the 2-1 winner in the 86th.  Minute at  Wigan Athletic  for his team to have an almost safe 6-point lead over their toughest competitors two games before the end of the season  Liverpool FC  would have.  The title defense in the Champions League failed because United on 27.  May 2009 after a disappointing final performance with 0: 2 against the  FC Barcelona  was subject.  In winning the  League Cup  in the same year he had little share, as he only faced in the semifinals  Derby County  had completed the last quarter of an hour.

Further title successes failed to materialize and Carrick found it increasingly difficult to defend his midfield position against up-and-coming competition.  Due to a number of injury problems in defense, Carrick also helped out for the first time in his professional career in some games as a central defender.  In addition, the yellow-red card was in the 3-2 win at  AC Milan  in the  Champions League  Carrick's first suspension in over ten years as a professional.

In early March 2011, however, the midfielder signed a new contract until the end of the 2013/14 season. Although he didn't score a single goal during the 2010/11 season, he was again an important factor in his win, especially from the end of 2010 in the central defensive midfield  fourth championship  with "United". He kept his good form in the 2011/12 season and another Premier League success was only just missed by the fact that the city rival  Manchester city  saved the win in stoppage time on the last matchday. Together with a newcomer  Robin van Persie , who set the offensive for the accents, were again considered Carrick's defensive and leadership qualities as key factors for Manchester United's meanwhile 20.  English championship in the 2012/13 season. He won the club's internal award for “Player of the Year” and was also elected Team of the Year ( PFA Team of the Year ).

After the long-standing successful trainer left  Alex Ferguson  Carrick was one of the many players among the unfortunate successor  David Moyes  did not find their shape. In an untitled 2013/14 season that did not even qualify for a European club competition, an Achilles tendon injury in November 2013 was also responsible for Carrick's struggle.  In March 2015, Carrick extended his contract with Manchester United until 2016.

On March 12, 2018, Carrick announced his summer retirement.
