Michael Carrick  (*  July 28th  1981  in  Wallsend ) is a former  English  Soccer player  and from the 2006/07 to 2017/18 season for the  Premier League club  Manchester United  active. The central, mostly defensively oriented  midfield player  began his professional career in London at  West Ham United  and  Tottenham Hotspur . With "United" he then celebrated five English championships ( 2007 ,  2008 ,  2009 ,  2011 ,  2013 ) as well as winning the  Champions League  his greatest successes. In the summer of 2018 he ended his career as a professional footballer.

With the  English national team  he took part in the World Cup finals in 2006 and 2010  Germany  and  South Africa  part. However, he was only used in a single game and was mostly in the shadow of competitors such as  Steven Gerrard ,  Frank Lampard  or  Gareth Barry . His strengths lie in passing and positional play as well as good ball control.

In early March 2011, however, the midfielder signed a new contract until the end of the 2013/14 season. Although he didn't score a single goal during the 2010/11 season, he was again an important factor in his win, especially from the end of 2010 in the central defensive midfield  fourth championship  with "United". He kept his good form in the 2011/12 season and another Premier League success was only just missed by the fact that the city rival  Manchester city  saved the win in stoppage time on the last matchday. Together with a newcomer  Robin van Persie , who set the offensive for the accents, were again considered Carrick's defensive and leadership qualities as key factors for Manchester United's meanwhile 20.  English championship in the 2012/13 season. He won the club's internal award for “Player of the Year” and was also elected Team of the Year ( PFA Team of the Year ).

After the long-standing successful trainer left  Alex Ferguson  Carrick was one of the many players among the unfortunate successor  David Moyes  did not find their shape. In an untitled 2013/14 season that did not even qualify for a European club competition, an Achilles tendon injury in November 2013 was also responsible for Carrick's struggle.  In March 2015, Carrick extended his contract with Manchester United until 2016.

On March 12, 2018, Carrick announced his summer retirement.
