Jakob "Jaap" Stam (* 17th July 1972 in Kampen ) is a former Dutch Soccer player and now Soccer coach .

The central defender was once the most expensive defender in the world, he moved from the 1998 PSV Eindhoven for about 18 million euros to the top British club Manchester United .
Stam was called "The Wall", an allusion to his good tackle technique and his good header game.
After an argument with a coach Alex Ferguson Stam switched to the Italian in 2001 for EUR 25.75 million Serie A club Lazio Rome . However, Alex Ferguson confessed in 2010 that he regretted the sale.

In 2002, Stam was due Doping abuse with Nandrolone locked for five months.
In 2004 he switched to the AC Milan , with whom he was under contract until the end of the 2005/06 season.
For the 2006/07 season, Jaap Stam returned to his home country for just under 3 million euros, where he was with the top Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam signed a contract. On October 29, 2007, Stam ended his career.
